Default Lost email folder

Then either you'd not been manually compacting all folders on a manual basis
or an application running at Startup deletes the contents of the Recycle Bin
at boot. If such were not the case, you'd find a back-up of the DBX folder
in Recycle Bin which you could have used to restore your messages in a few
seconds.

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Frequently perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working
offline". More at http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and do not attempt to
close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if Automatic Compacting
is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages) and provides no additional protection:

Is "Teriel Consultants.bak" found in Recycle Bin? Are any BAK files
found
in Recycle Bin?

Hi Bruce,
Many thanks for your help but the "Teriel Consultants.dbx" file is not
in
that position.
I did a search for *.dbx and found 159 files but this was not among
them.
It seems I have lost the info

First, make sure it isn't in Deleted Items. If not, see if the dbx file
for the folder still exists in the message store and manually restore
it
as follows.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location
of
your Outlook Express files. Write the location down and navigate to it
in
Windows Explorer or, copy and paste it into Start | Run.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by
default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show
Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options |
View.

In the message store in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx file for the
missing folder and drag it to the Desktop at the top of the folder
tree.
Open OE and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on
your
Desktop. Open the new folder and then close OE. (You must do this). Go
back to Windows Explorer and Click Desktop and drag the file from the
Desktop to the OE store folder that you clicked on to reveal the .dbx
files. Prompt - "Do you want to overwrite......."? Click Yes.

*Note* If you have moved the Outlook Express store folder from it's
default location on drive C to another drive, drag the dbx file to a
location on that drive and not the Desktop.

Hi Bruce, Many thanks for your prompt response, I have a number of
folders which messages are directed to by message rules, for some
reason
one of them, the folder and all the emails have gone.
I looked in the Recycle bin but there was nothing there.
Is there any where I can look where the folder info is stored
...
Please define what you call the "main" e-mail folder, and is it gone,
or
just the messages?

I have just opened my Outlook Express and notice that my main email
folder has disappeared, how can I get it back please.
Thanks
Teriel9
