Default Office 2003 lockout

After updating, my Office 2003 has locked up and I cannot access. I have
tried Add/Remove to change but get an error message about a patch package not
being valid. I also cannot revove it and reinstall for the same reason. I
have tried to install without removal and get the same error message; even
when I downloaded a trial of 2007, everything went well until the last moment
of the install when I got a fatal error message. I desparately need this
program for school and can find no one who can help. Please, if you have any
ideas, help!

And if you insert your Office cd, and after a few minutes, select repair
when it opens, what then?
