Default Visual Basic Editor

I have just installed Office Small Business Edition 2003.
In trying to run Excel programs from an Office 97
installation on an old computer, I cannot find out how to
get the Visual Basic Editor to activate. on ALT/F11, all I
get is a black screen and the help files are no help.

I don't use Office2003, but maybe you didn't install the VBA portion of the
program. (It's optional.)

I'd close excel and try reinstalling and make sure VBA is selected.

Prior to your response, Dave, I reinstalled Office 2003 but
I made no special selection to install VBA. The same
problem with running VBA macros recurred. Then I deleted
the desktop shortcut )which remained after uninstalling)
and ran Excel from Programs/Office/Office11/Excel. Lo and
behold, the macros in my program ran, and the Visual Basic
Editor displayed my program code! I suspect the shortcut
icon was calling Excel from somewhere else or some other
path---or not. It is still a mystery.
