Default Outlook 2003 Reading Pane (preview pane)

Could someone please tell me how to control the state of the reading pane via the registry? I don't really care if it is preferred or not as it is just that, a preference. If an Outlook profile can recall whether the reading pane were off or on, bottom or right when last used, I believe it should not be difficult to provide the registry information that contains the status of the reading pane. I believe it to be somewhere in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\"your profile name".

Please do not ask me why I must do this as I am not going into that detail. I have been asked to do this regardless of anyone else's preference.

It's not being stored there. It's stored in the mailbox/pst-file itself. You
cannot enforce the state of the Reading Pane

In previous versions of Outlook was the preview pane status maintained in the outlook mailbox as well? Is it possible to reset the reading pane to off on the exchange server?

What happens when creating a new mailbox on the Exchange Server and the Outlook client is configured for the first time? Where is the status of the reading pane initialized from?

Lastly, if the preview/reading pane is on for some folders, off for others in a previous version of Outlook using an Exchange 2000 server, when a new profile (not migrated) is created on a new pc utilizing a fresh (not upgraded) installation of Office 2003, why doesn't the reading pane stay in the bottom position as it was before and why is it not on for all folders that were previously configured for it?

1) No, but you can use a troubleshooting switch to start Outlook with the
Reading Pane off; /nopreview

2) Hardcoded default

3) Because the views get a reset
