We don't know how the CD caused the crash. It was being read, the blue screen
appeared and that was it. I know the CD was bad because it caused grief on this
computer as well. I assume since this is a much newer computer it could cope.
The CD was never read and now the disk resides in the trash. New hard drives are
cheap...

I just use an external drive for backups. I could (but haven't) automate the
backup process to be more frequent than my manual system. Every so often I'll
backup certain stuff to CD as well.
