Default Outlook 2007 Address Book

Russ,

When you first suggested a new profile, you didn't say how. At any rate, the
help screens led me to the same article, and as I said, I followed precisely,
tested the connection, and it worked. Even though you did not tell me to do
so, I created a new personal file for contacts and made both the new profile
and new contact folder default. Address book shows no entries.

Could the problem be in the application itself?

I believe you are talking about the address book icon on the tool

The reason the Contacts is empty is that you need to tell the new profile to
use the old data file (pst).

Default Outlook 2007 Address Book

For us to figure out what you did wrong (if anything), we would need to know
how your "created a new personal folder file for contacts" and what you mean
by that. Outlook already creates a new personal folder file automatically
with a new profile and that Contacts Folder is enabled as an email address
book by default. Any other folder that you create, you'd have to designate
as an email address book yourself. Finally, we'd have to know how you
migrated your data to this new profile.
Are you certain this address book doesn't work? Is it configured to display
a Contacts folder that contains valid, resolved electronic addresses?

I deleted the the "Contacts:Personl Folders", Exited, and
went
back
in
to
add
a new address book. My only options are mobil address book,
or
outlook
address book. It won't let me add outlook address book
again,
and
when
I
click on change, "Contacts:Personal Folders" reappears.

In the properties dialog box of the contacts folder, I
cannot
remove.

But you can remove it, right? If nothing appears when you
view
this
folder
in the address book view, then you have a corrupt link to
your
Contacts
Folder. Remove this one and add the correct one.

Sorry Russ, perhaps I jumped ahead.

First , I did exactly as you asked, and when I clicked
on
"change",
a
widow
opened that showed my outlook address book as
"contactsersonal
folders".

Within the same window, and above, the text said to go
to
properties
in
the
contacts, personal folders. The dialog box showed that
this
folder
was
selected as the e-mail address book. As I said last
night,
there
is
a
check
mark in this box, but it is not "active", which is to
say
that
the
text
and
check box are light gray, and I couldn't change if I
wanted
to.

I'm sorry for the confusion but, this is exactly what I
see.

Wait. You confused me. The view I asked for has no
check
box.
You
said
it
does. You didn't mean that, did you?

Hi Russ,

I've been out of town.

OK, the window shows the selected Outlook Address
Book
as
"Contacts:Personal
Folders". The text above this says that in the
properties
dialog
box
to
check
the box "Show this folder as the e-mail address
book".
The
box
has a
check
mark, but it is not "active".

Russ,

Ok, I tried your suggestion. I only have 1 address
book;
"Contacts".
This
is
the one that had been selected; as always.

When I type a name into select names window that
opens
when I
click
on
"To"
in e-mail, no list of contacts appeares but, I can
type
a
name
in,
click
the
search button and one name will appear.

No. I'm saying open the Address Book from your
toolbar.
In
that
view
you
will have the option to choose which Contacts
Folder
you
want
to
display
first.

Default Outlook 2007 Address Book

I having been using this application for over 1 year, without problem. As of
today, when composing a new e-mail, and clicking on "To", my outlook address
book does not open. Instead, I get a window that says "Select
Names:Contacts". In the past, my entire contacts listing opened up and I
could click on the intended recipients. I've made no changes to any settings
of which I'm aware.

How can I change to the way it was?

Thanks!

Can anyone tell me if you can add a command button to add a contact from an
email to the address book. I tried the help menu ( bit of a misnomer) but it
does show what the button might look like. I understand that Outlook doesn't
save automatically the address of someone you reply to. Supposedly you can
highlight an address in an open message and then click on this button. But I
cannot find it.
Any help would be wondeful.
Thanks J

If the address is in a recipient or sender field, right-click and choose Add
to Contacts. If the address is in the body of the message, you can click it
to open a new message addressed to that address, press Ctrl-K to resolve the
address, then right-click it and choose Add to Contacts. If there are
conditions other than these, explain them and we may be able to suggest
something else.
