HEY NOW!!! Wait - I am older than my boss. Guess it *is* my fault. ;-)

I don't really know Bill Gates, but I've always liked him (from seeing
him, reading his book, etc)

He'd probably make a better (more trustworthy) president than the one we
have. And, the country probably would get out of debt faster (LOL)

I was thinking that "report" about MS and programs reporting to it, might
be part of the hype and PR that Apple has going on to get people to switch
or buy a MAC for a first computer. I get ads for them in my email and they
are expensive... and if I wanted "Office" I'd have to pay more to get it or
convert it or something.

I think what I don't like about MAC is some of the users act like they
are so special, like THEY have a MAC and never get viruses and things are so
easy to use and they don't spend all that time fixing things, etc.

Well what fun is that? (LOL)

I read a lot once on Lexmark putting in cookies and reporting (data)
when you use the printer, or maybe just when you print something from a
website. People were writing about this and saying they called the co and
it was denied, and then someone said it wasn't personally identifying info,
just about useage and how much ink was used or something.

I've noticed the file (supposedly it needs all the files it puts in to
work) lexbce.exe I think it is. Something with lex in it.

I'm not all that concerned about my printer reporting what I do online
(LOL) but it's kind of the idea of it.

Who knows what gets started and what, if anything it's based on. The
website I found that report on has changed to MACs and people are having
trouble with the QuickTime they were told they have to get for it. I don't
participate on the board, but got into reading about the computer/player
problems. It does seem strange they changed, because the person doing it
works for Microsoft (though I don't think they require employees to never
have a MAC) and they are always asking for donations to keep the website and
group going, so changing the server to MACS seems like an expense.

I don't know why they did it, a few said they had a problem before with
the streaming and videos (which worked in WMP) because of having MACS but
seems like they'd have a MAC version that would be compatible without
changing everything over to MAC and messing it up for the PCs.

This really doesn't have anything to do with Publisher, just that it
said that about Office 2007 (maybe just with VISTA) calling home and
reporting to MS. I remember (before I got XP) I had Word 2000 and sometimes
a security box would come up saying "Word is trying to connect to the
internet, do you want to allow this?" I never knew why it needed to so I'd
check NO.

It is their fault!

And people are out to get me.

Mot to mention I can fold under pressure like a lawn chair.

Gotta go to Kinkos.

Yeah. I also get Windows auto updates. I've been told they are good, but
I've noticed when it gives an option like yes or no and you click NO, it
keeps asking and then when I turn off the computer it pops up and installs
it anyway.

Is it Windows that wants to send messages home or Dell? Without knowing
specifically what the message said, we can't help you.

As for Vista - I have it on three computers here at home and they are
fine.

And if so, what does it mean?

I know my Dell computer keeps wanting to send reports back "home" and I
click NO.

I'm asking here because it mentioned Office 2007 in it. Oh, I have
WINDOWS
XP and have heard that VISTA isn't so good and has problems.
