Default Can't create two column index

I'm using MS Word 2000 on a ~200+ page document. I've created an index
without much trouble, but now can't seem to make it change from a single
column to two columns. Choosing the number of columns option (well...2)
within the Index folder in the Index and Tables Insert choice has no effect
on changing from a single column to two columns.

Any constructive help would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

aloha,

David C. Hurd

Press Alt+F9 to view the INDEX field code and make sure that it includes the
\c 2 switch. Also, be sure you're viewing the index in Print Layout view
(not Normal).

I believe that I wasn't looking at the text in the Print Layout View, since
when I switched over and searched for the appropriate field code in the
Index section, it looked correct from your description.

Thanks again for your help on this. My poor brain is really frazzled at
this point with having to deal with all the issues of self publishing.
