Default Why do zip codes w/ leading zeros disappear when doing mail merge

I use excel which contains zipcodes that begin with zero. When I merge the
spreadsheet for letters and labels, the zeros disappear (I get a four diget
zipcode instead of five).

I formated the column as a zip code, but it still doesn't work.

See "Formatting Word fields with switches" on fellow MVP Graham Mayor's
