Unable to open Database in Design view.
I have a user who created an Access Database in Access 2000. He recently
upgraded to Office 2003 and can no longer open the Database in design view. He used to hold down on the Shift Key until the Database opened and he could edit no problem. Any ideas? |

Hi.
I can think of four reasons for this behavior. 1.) The database is an MDE file. Is the user _positive_ that he is opening the correct file? 2.) The AllowBypassKey database property has been disabled. 3.) The database has had user-level security applied which prevents unauthorized users from altering the design view of objects, and the user is not joined to the workgroup used to secure the database. 4.) The database has had user-level security applied, and the AllowBypass key database property has been disabled, and the user is not joined to the workgroup used to secure the database. HTH. A 5th possibility. The user only has the runtime version of Access
installed. Might the user have upgraded to Office 2003 Small Business Edition? I believe it includes the runtime version of Access for some other functionality it includes. -- Doug Steele, Microsoft Access MVP http://I.Am/DougSteele (no e-mails, please!) Thanks guys. Access is my weak point. I appreciate the advice. I remembered
as I was referencing an Office 2003 book that to open design View you have to hit the F11 key after the database is open. This worked. Thanks for your input. "Douglas J. Thanks for the feedback. However, pressing the F11 key merely unhides the
database window. It doesn't open any object in Design View. HTH. Gunny See http://www.QBuilt.com for all your database needs. See http://www.Access.QBuilt.com for Microsoft Access tips.
