Default document with different types of page numbers at different sections

I'm editing a book and I have a few problems with getting the pages
numbered properly. Take the first 10 pages of the book (the
preface)... I'd like to have roman numerals for them (i, ii, iii,
etc...), but when the actual first chapter starts, I'd like to have
"regular" numbers start at 1 (1, 2, 3, etc...)for example. I can't,
for the life of me, figure out how to do this... Could someone please
shed some light on this for me?

Another thing I'm trying to figure out is how to have the title of the
book appear at the top of every page of the book, but have the
chapter's title appear as well. I know this probably involves master
pages, etc... but I can't figure out how to do it.

Can anyone help me?

Try this training course of office website: http://office.microsoft.com/training...RC010216611033

This discusses how to add header, footer, title, date, etc.

Both things can be accomplished by using section breaks: Click Insert
- Breaks. Insert a section break - new page after the preface and
new section breaks for every new chapter.

To have different pagination you have to insert the page number and
then select Format pagenumber. For the first section select the
appropriate type of numbering and then repeat for the second section
(first chapter) but select Start on page one instead of Continue from
precvious secton. In the following sections the numbering is default
on Continue from previous section.

About the chapter title: Use a style for the chapter title, then go to
the header for section two (chapter one). Click Insert - Field.... -
In the Field name box on the left, select StyleRef. In the Style name
box on the right, select the name of the style you have used for the
chapters titles.

See "How to set up a document with front matter numbered separately" at
