Automatic send and receive

I have set for an auto send and receive, every 5 minutes, and Outlook is not performing this function. I am permanently connected so this is very frustrating and puzzling. The Help topics have not helped!!

The minimum time span is 10 minutes or the server gets confused.

This isn't a minimum. My interval is set on 1 minute and I never had any
problems with it.

yeah, i have mine set for 1 minute for about 4 months now....no problems

1) Be kind to your internet host's server- set it for *at least* 10 min.

2) If outlook tries to do a new mail pass when it's still downloading it can
cause Outlook to lock up or improperly close the first session, causing
duplicate messages. This is worse with older versions of outlook and slow
connections or if you routinely receive large (size or quantity) messages
that take longer to download than your check every setting.

Which version of Outlook?

If Outlook 2002/2003, find and rename the *.SRS file for your profile and
restart outlook- confirm that it's set to check mail every xx minutes in
tools, send/receive settings.


Outlook stores NK2 (nickname or autocomplete cache), SRS (send and receive
settings), XML (Navigation Pane), outlprnt, and VBA files as hidden files
in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook.
You can easily access it by pasting
%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
in the Address bar of your browser or Windows Explorer.

Note that by default, Windows hides some of your user profile folders from
you. Change the settings in Windows Explorer's Tools, Folder Options, View
tab to show hidden files and folders and remove the check from hide system
files.

1) kind to my provider? You don't know the Dutch providers! ;-)

2) I know about the issues that it could cause and so I gradually turned it
from 15 minutes to 10, 5, 3 and then 1 to test it and it's working without
issues for 5 years straight now :-)
