Default help with this strange problem please

one of my friends has a strange problem with her OE6. After she deletes a
message from her inbox, the message stays in inbox folder and the message is
strikeThrough ( a line over it ).

I'm not sure if I'm clear enough. A screen capture of her OE6 after deleting
messages is he

any kind of help would be appreciated.

thanks in advance,
Shadow

I'm not competent to explain this phenomenon, but you'll notice that the
same "strike out" graphic is super-imposed on messages in the "Message List"
pane of the Outlook Express on-screen display of the contents of news
groups, when the messages are "no longer on the server," but when they
continue to appear in your own "local" display of messages.

The on-screen explanation which appears in such circumstances reads:

+++++++++++++++++++

Message is no longer available on the server
Outlook Express is unable to retrieve the requested message because the
server no longer has the message available.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----

a.. News servers regularly expire articles as they get older to make space
available for newer articles.
b.. IMAP servers can be accessed by multiple e-mail programs at the same
time. If you are using two programs to access your mail the list of messages
maybe out of date. Use the refresh command to update this list.

Outlook Express
+++++++++++++++++++

This may be relevant, or it may only be a coincidence, but the
"strike-throughs" in your screen shot looked identical to these Outlook
Express newsgroup "strike-throughs." They even include the same red "Xs."

I have never seen this in Mail Accounts before, but this won't hurt
anything to try it and may resolve the problem.

First, move any mail you want to save to another folder. Then:

ToolsOptionsMaintenanceStore folder will reveal the location
of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the
folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then StartRunCtrl+V will
put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files.
Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows
Explorer.

In WindowsXP, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under StartControl PanelFolder
OptionsView.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in
question {Inbox.dbx} and delete it. A new one will be created
automatically when you open OE.

Do not archive mail on default OE folders. They will eventually
become corrupted. Create your own user defined folders for storing
mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder
regularly.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually
while working *offline* and do it often.

FileWork Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar).
FileFolderCompact all folders.

In ToolsOptionsMaintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background
and leave it unchecked.

Thanks for your description.
and yes, it's just like when a message has been deleted from a news group
server and it exists in the dbx file of OE.

I appreciate your help
