OE 6 wasting space?
I've been using Outlook Express 6 for some time now and I use e-Backup
regularly to make back ups from my e-mail & news groups. Recently I noticed that the back up was getting rather large, in spite of having deleted old messages with attachments etc. So I examined my identity folder and I found 'concepts.idx' and 'removed items.idx', both about 50 MB in size! But in Outlook Express both these folders are empty! What is happening here? -- regards, |\ /| | \/ |@rk \../ \/os |

OE 6 wasting space?
After deleting messages you have to compact the folders (File | Folder | =
Compact or Compact all) to remove the wasted space in the file and clear = out the deleted stuff. If compaction does not work, then the folders are corrupt and you need = to delete them manually via WinExplorer. They are hidden in Win2K and = XP. steve "Linea Recta" wrote in message = ... Obviously some terminoligy confusion, because my back up program compresses the back up, but I suppose "compacting" is something different than "compressing". Gosh, I compacted all folders now, and my back up is now 56 MB in stead of 130 MB! thanks, |\ /| | \/ |@rk \../ \/os |

OE 6 wasting space?
I never knew I had to "compact", because I assumed "deleted" messages to be
deleted in OE (so much for logics?) Now I used the compact all option and my back up decreased from 130 MB to 56 MB! Never too old to learn I suppose... -- thanks, |\ /| | \/ |@rk \../ \/os "Steve Cochran" schreef in bericht ...
