Default Paste Link Option

Hi Everyone

I have a small problem with linking common/repetitive text in
different areas of visio.

Now I have tried excel for linking information, it works fine, I copy
my desired data region from excel and do "paste link" in visio to
display the data. Any update in excel sheet will be reflected
automatically in visio.

Now if I have two pages in visio, I want to copy some "text" from
page-1 of visio and wank to "paste link" to page-2, but it does not
work. The option is disabled.

Linkwise If I have 10 page in visio, and would like the information to
be repeated several times, how can I do this.

Regards,

John

You didn't mention what version of visio you are using. With v2007 if you are
datalinking the data can be attached to shapes on multiple pages. i.e. you
can link to shape1 on page one and shape three on page two. DataLinking in
v2007 is from recordsets to shapes, not shape to shape.

Jon,

I have been struggling with this issue for years now. I had high hopes for Visio 2007 and installed the Pro version today to find myself yet again, out of luck.

I do not understand why the paste-link is not available for anything (not even a simple text box) in Visio yet it has been available for several years in word, excel, etc. If you find any solution to this issue or helpful hints to assist in the solution (even a cool VB script), I would be very appreciative of a heads-up!

Thanks,

Shayne

Hi Shayne --

Can't tell what link issue is being talked about. Your response brings us
into the middle of a conversation. Visio does have a hyperlink capability,
but I don't know if this is what the topics about. Assuming it is, cntl K
will bring up a form, or menu bar insert hyperlinks. There have been
additional posts on this topic, and a search for that keyword will bring up a
lot of posts. But, my guess is you have a different issue.
