Default URGENT - Disable links in a shared workbook

I am using an excel sheet which is shared across a network. This
workbook has links to several workbooks. The workbook needs to remain
shared & protected while its on the network. Sharing and protecting
works fine. However, i have observed that when the workbook is shared
and protected, the links can still be broken / updated. This should
not be allowed. When the workbook is shared and protected, the users
viewing the workbook should not be able to update or break the links.
Is there an option in excel that i am overlooking that does not allow
users to update links in a shared workbook? Please assist.

Hi Arlette,

You would need to do something like this in addition to protecting the
speadsheet:

1. Put the workbook in Manual recalculation mode
2. Disable the Edit Links command
3. Disable the F9 and related recalculation keys
4. Disable access to the Tools, Options command.

You would need to do this via VBA if it can be done at all, and I'm not sure
all of these can be disabled. It might be easier to create a "user" copy of
the file in which you convert all the formulas to values.

Cheers,
Shane
