Default Continuing a list with text and numbers

I want to fill a column with image ID numbers followed by a suffix ie, "001.jpg" without the speech marks, and have Excel continue the list down the column, but I can't get the ".jpg" part to copy, only the numbers, so at present I am filling in each cell which takes forever!
Is there an easy to do this?
The actual total of numbers will vary each time - it is for a photography web-site, but each one needs the identifier after the number without a space.
Can someone suggest a step-by-step method of doing this if it is possible and is there a way to save the "formula" for further use?
I hope someone can help as this is driving me mad!

Kev,

First, format your column for text (or precede the following entries with an
apostrophe). Type 001 (or '001) into the first cell. Copy down with the
fill handle. You should have 001, 002, etc.
In another column, put:
=A2 & ".jpg"
Copy down with fill handle
This should yield 001.jpg., 002.jpg., etc.

Now you can copy the second column and paste it over the first with Paste
Special - Values, then get rid of the second (formula) column if you wish.

Hi-
Just format the cells in question using Custom Format. Enter 000.jpg.
Then in the entry cells any number you enter will have the .jpg suffex.
If you enter 1, the display will be "001.jpg". If you enter 1234, the
display will be "1234.jpg".
