Default Changing background color

How do you change the background color (not the writing surface background),
but the grey background that the document rests upon? (Word 2003)

Thanks for all help

You have never been able to do this in Word, and, as of Word 2007, you still
can't. As the trend is towards less customisation generally, I am not
hopeful.

You actually can do this is Word 2003 and earlier, but it requires changing
the "Application Background" color in your Windows color scheme, and it will
affect all Windows applications.

Thanks,

But that doesn't work. You can see the application color you've selected as
you're opening or closing the program, but once it's opened, the background
is back to plain ol' gray.
