I am unable to copy and paste pictures

I have always been able to cut and paste pictures, but I am unable to do so.
I copy the picture and then go to power point to paste and nothing happens.

I'll bet you are pasting something, but that it can't be rendered. Click on
the slide (not on any objects) then hit the tab key repeatedly to select
each of the different objects on the slide in turn. I'd wager that there
are one or more objects that you can not see in the middle of the slide that
represent the 'pasted' pictures. Delete these objects.

This is just one of the reasons that 'Cut & Paste' is generally bad, and
indeed, very bad when used with PowerPoint.

Instead, save the picture to your hard drive in a graphics format (JPG, PNG,
GIF, etc) then use the Insert = Picture from file method.
