Issues with O2k3SP3 Unattend and MUI Chained installs
Hey guys,
I recently created an unattended installation for Office 2k3 and slipstreamed Service Pack 3 with it. In the SETUP.INI file, I chained installs for the German, French, Spanish, and Portuguese MUIs per the request of my client support team. Here's what happens: 1) On computers with NO Office installation, the unattended install runs fine and installs the MUI packs. (SMS Deployed) 2) On computers with Service Pack 2 installed, it upgrades the installation to Service Pack 3, but DOES NOT install the MUI packs. (SMS Deployed) 3) On computers that either have SP2 installed or NO Office installation, the unattended can be run from the command line and office installs, but DOES NOT install the MUI packs. I could see that I'm missing something that would give different results for 1) and 2), but 3) is really throwing me for a loop. Anyone have any ideas on what to look at? Thanks! |

1) works fine
2) works as designed. Chained installs only start one time. To upgrade existing installations of Office 2003 SP2, you'll have to apply the patches, B.e. with a vbscript. The Office 2003 installer is 'smart' enough to upgrade itself to SP3 when it finds that SP2 is allready installed, but this just doesn't work for the MUI chains. 3) Don't exactly see what you mean here. Do you mean a manual install without SMS? -- Michiel Wouters [MCSE 2003] [MCSA Messaging 2003] Before you post, think with the brain you host "William Anderson" wrote: Hey guys, I recently created an unattended installation for Office 2k3 and slipstreamed Service Pack 3 with it. Thanks for the response Michael,
3) Yeah, if I run the office installation from the Run line prompting for the transform like I have in the SMS command it fails to install the MUIs whether Office SP2 was installed or not. 1 and 2 make sense now. Thanks for that. I suppose I can just package the MUIs seperate in SMS and make them non-mandatory adverts that the user can run... "Michiel W." wrote: 1) works fine 2) works as designed.
