Roaming vs Local Profile
Have just installed Windows 7 with Office 2007 on new computer. Previous
computer is XP SP3 with Office 2007. Am attempting to migrate the nickname cache from the old computer to the new one. It appears that OL on the new computer is looking for the .nk2 file in: c:\users\(user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook I had expected it to look in: c:\users\(user name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook, which is where the .pst file is located. Is there a setting someplace that dictates the location of the nickname cache, and if so, how could I change that? Thanks. -- Dave Jenkins K5KX |

Roaming vs Local Profile
So why haven't you placed the nk2 file in its default location (roaming)?

Your expectations are wrong. The NK2 file is a mail profile-specific file and has always resided in %AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook. Is there a setting someplace that dictates the location of the nickname cache, and if so, how could I change that? The cache's location cannot be changed except by changing the value of the AppData environment variable and then you'll be affecting the location of the Roaming folder. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

Roaming vs Local Profile
I did. But that's really not relevant. My question remains: Is the
location of the nickname cache file settable/selectable someplace? And if so, where? *Why* is the cache stored in the Roaming folder? (When it previously was not, in XP.) -- Dave Jenkins K5KX "DL" wrote: So why haven't you placed the nk2 file in its default location (roaming)? "Dave Jenkins" wrote in message ... I already answered this question for you, two days ago. *Why* is the cache stored in the Roaming folder? (When it previously was not, in XP.) It wasn't stored in "Roaming" in Windows XP because Windows XP doesn't HAVE a Roaming folder. It IS, however, stored in exactly the equivalent place, the folder indicated by the "AddData" environment variable. On Vista and 7, AppData points to C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming and on Windows XP and 2000, it points to C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
