Default Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 postinstall activation: switchingcomputers etc...

Hello,

I have installed Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 on my Windows Vista
Home Premium SP1 operating system by entering a legitimate
product key (in fact I purchased it with the right to install it on
three computers). The very first time I opened Microsoft
Word 2007 that came as part of Office I had to click in
order for the product to be activated over the network.

What I would like to know is, what exactly happenes
at the application layer when the software is activated,
that is, what information is exchanged with the activation
server, and, for instance, how does it check whether it
has been installed more than three times? If my laptop
breaks down and I install it on another computer what
would happen during the activation stage?

Thank you for your information,

Neil Zanella

It depends on the time scale between installations / activations as to what
it reports
If installed on 3 working PC's and one fails, you simply install on the new
and use phone activation if on line fails
PS I believe Office versions can only be installed on 2 PC's / Devices for
use by the same person, Office H&S allows for 3 PC's for use by the same
family

Thank you for your reply. I was able to get Office Ultimate 2007
through
an offer to universities for staff members for less than 100 british
pounds.
However I have checked the following site and cannot find on how many
computers it can be installed.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/su...677751033.aspx

Could anyone point out to me exactly on how many computers it
can be installed and provide me with a URL that has this info.

Thanks,

With your site license, you get three installs. Assuming you install it
three times, and one of the machines breaks down so you replace it as
unserviceable, then you Activate over the phone and they will turn on the
4th install so you can use the product.

Read Section 2 "Installation and Use Rights" of your Office 2007
Software License Terms, which you can access by starting Word
2007 and clicking on Office Button | Word Options | Resources |
About | View the Microsoft Software License Terms. It will tell
you how many computers you can legally install your particular
copy of Office 2007 Ultimate on. My guess is two computers.
Could also be one computer, but definitely not three computers.

DL- What are you basing your (unlimited number of installs on) answer on?
Previous MS and other anti-virus softwares I've used have maintained a 3x
install. Now I'm trying to install first time download, now trying to
install on a second machine using the dvd. (HEY MS support! FYI Its sticks
about 3/4 the way thru the first disk.)
