Unknow account profile sent from Outlook Express 6
Hi Everyone, Today I downloaded and set-up the latest Thunderbird version on my WinXP Pro SP3 computer . I plan to delete my Yahoo e-mail , and just use Outlook Express and Thunder Bird . When I clicked to import my e-mail settings from Outlook Express 6 , I saw that 2-profiles had been imported , my profile and another account identity that I never created and I knew nothing about ! The other account identity is listed as (1) account , which has the same POP address as mine . Also the other account identity has a full first and last name , a SMTP address and a e-mail address. I have never seen this account before Thunderbird imported it from some where? My concern now is that this 2nd account identity , could be the result of malware or someone hacking in to my computer . I know that Windows Identities keeps creating a "main identity" even after I keep removing it. And about 6-months ago Outlook Express suddenly was unable to send "read receipts" to senders who requested "read receipts" , after successfully doing so for years. How could I tell if this 2nd account identity is the result of malware , and if so what kind of malware could have caused this? Feedback will be appreciated . P.S. I also posted this question on the Thunder Bird forums. But no replies. Thanks. -- your friend, Larry |

I have never heard of OE creating a new main Identity.
If you create a new Windows user, OE will have a main Identity. To delete an Identity, you have to be in another Identity. Look at the date of the files in the Identity store folder. I doubt that malware would create another Identity. -- Ronald Sommer "leoliver" wrote in message ... I plan to delete my Yahoo e-mail , and just use Outlook Express and ThunderBird . Why both, if I may ask? OE File | Identities | Manage identities: How many identities are listed here, what are their names, and which is selected as the default? Now use OE File | Switch identities to open each identity, in turn: Which is the one you've been using lately and what is its name? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ leoliver wrote: Today I downloaded and set-up the latest Thunderbird version on my WinXP Pro SP3 computer . Is this an e-mail account provided by your ISP? Some ISP's as part of
the installation automatically configure an e-mail account for you. The the account is created as a result of running some ISP troubleshooting. I've seen quite a few people who end up with an "(1)" account. It's probably Not any malware. You can just delete the account that you are not using. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "leoliver" wrote in message ... I installed Thunderbird because I wanted to test it , to see if Thunderbird
had the same problems as OE 6 . Such as suddenly not being able to send return read receipts. Which Thunderbird does and OE 6 still won't . (search the OE 6 forum for leoliver posts) Thunderbird does , like OE 6 , has problems with links to this forum . The links to posts I made to this forum, in e-mail notification of replies, still takes me to blank pages. But today I opened up this forum in IE 7, and then clicked on the link from a e-mail notification of reply's to my forum posts, and Thunderbird took me to the correct web-page. I'll test that in OE 6 also. I was advised to use a newsreader , instead of a regular e-mail account , to access this forum. And I used a newsreader for a while, and I could read messages, but had problems with posting messages to the correct forum. So I deleted the newsreader account. Maybe I need to spend more time learning how to use a newsreader account. But I would still like to know why the return links suddenly started taking me to blank pages when they worked before . I'll keep trying. -- your friend, Larry "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: [quoted reply edited for legibility] I plan to delete my Yahoo e-mail , and just use Outlook Express and ThunderBird . ...I would still like to know why the return
links suddenly started taking me to blank pages when they worked before . I'll keep trying. I would still like you to answer my questions. I would also like you to stick to the subject of this thread: The behavior of those links in email notifications has nothing to do with what happened when TBird imported OE data (which is probably related to a Windows setting and nothing in OE). leoliver wrote: I installed Thunderbird because I wanted to test it , to see if Thunderbird had the same problems as OE 6 . Yeah, I did post 2-subjects in one post. My mistake.
Now for my having 2 e-mail accounts .............. I had a Yahoo e-mail account before I had a computer and used public computers only. So after I purchased a computer , which came with Outlook Express , and created a OE 6 account I still continued to use my Yahoo e-mail account. And still do. But I decided to continue my Yahoo account . Some folks send me e-mail via Yahoo and some via my cox.net account by OE 6. If my home computer ever goes on the blink, I could still use my Yahoo account with a public computer. To answer your question about using 2 e-mail accounts , it's just "force of habit". The way I always did the e-mail thing. Now for Thunderbird , I installed it to see if Thunderbird is better than Outlook Express. Because of some of the problems I had with OE 6. At first I thought Thunderbird was better than OE 6. Thunderbird now seems better that OE 6 with sending return read receipts . BUT I then discovered that OE 6 is better than Thunderbird when it comes to creating message rules for e-mails. So for the test between Thunderbird and OE 6 , at this moment I would rate them as about even. Which does say alot for OE 6 , since it is older than Thunderbird. -- your friend, Larry "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: [quoted reply edited for legibility] I plan to delete my Yahoo e-mail , and just use Outlook Express and ThunderBird .
