Outlook Express & Internet Explorer7
Am running WinXP personal with SP3. Have all available updates from update
site. Recently had a little (actually a lot) of trouble when loading a new virus software, but have everything back to 'normal'. With IE7 open, I was able to check mail by using the little arrow icon at right hand end of tool bar which also has the help. Now the mail icon is missing. What do I need to do to get this feature back? Have already checked IE7: toolsinternet toolsoptionsprograms, and Outlook Express is shown as mail service. C:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe does exist seems to function correctly. (I created a shortcut to msimn.exe on the desktop). Any help would be appreciated, Ace |

This is an IE issue. Help is on the Menu Bar in IE. The Mail icon is on the
Command Bar. Did you right click on the Command Bar | Customize Command Bar | Add or Remove Commands? Is the Mail icon in the left pane? add it to the right pane. The Mail button no longer appears on the toolbar, and there are changes in the way that you access mail-related functionalities in Internet Explorer 7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926325 What sort of problems were you having downloading AV software? More important, what do you have on your machine now? -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Ace" wrote in message ... Am running WinXP personal with SP3. Thank you Bruce,
I've just now done what you suggested with "customize" and now mail is now as it was . It will make the wife verrrry happy. As for AV software, I was trying to do a install on a 3rd PC of Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 (sold as usable on three PC's). After installing from CD and trying to get udates a second time (each try gave me a files corrupted message, update failed, etc) which involved a download time of approximately 4 hours each time, decided to restore to when I had updated to SP3. System crash! Only got a blank screen with system restore. Eventually resoved by cmd. c:\windows\system32\restore\rstui.exe. So went out and purchased a copy of Defender Pro. Installed, keyed in license info etc, and after several attempts, finally succeeded in getting the initial updates. Now, upon bootup, am presented with Defender Pro's screen that License is about to expire, etc. At present, waiting to hear from Defender Pro as to what to do about that problem. Probably not a MS issue, but I was very surprised when seeing the Defender Pro's accessing Kasperersky URL for the software updates? Again however, any help would be appreciated, Ace |

OT? I dunno...
Had there been no anti-virus application installed before you attempted to install KIS 2009? What in the would led you to purchase Defender Pro? Are you aware that many components of Defender Pro (e.g., anti-virus; firewall) are rebadged, licensed (apparently) version of a much older version of KIS? cf. http://www.my3cents.com/showReview.cgi?id=32188 (lots of similar gripes found via Google) -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Ace wrote: Thank you Bruce, I've just now done what you suggested with "customize" and now mail is now as it was .
