Conceal Identity
Every post I make to newsgroups is being maliciously tracked by a certain
individual. I then receive pornographic email at home. Is there a way to conceal one's identity completely (headers) when posting to a newsgroup using Outlook Express 6.0? Rob |

If you want a truly throw-away address, that you can still check, if need be, look at www.mailinator.com |

No...
That's a... COWARDLY way to act. Use your REAL NAME... DON'T HIDE behind a PSEUDONYM such as: "Ildhund" But use a throwaway or fictitious email address in order to protect yourself from SPAM, VIRUSES, DEATH THREATS, WORMS, IDENTITY THIEVES, CHILD MOLESTERS, et alii. I know from experience. I don't trust ANYONE who won't use HIS or HER Real Name. WOMEN may prefer to use only the FIRST name... That's not desirable or preferable -- but entirely acceptable... As there are malicious, molester loons out there. DSH Lux et Veritas et Libertas Deus Vult "Richard in AZ" wrote in message ... "Rob" wrote in message m... As there are malicious, molester loons out there. Women are not the only victims of "malicious, molester loons". In one of the Spanish "alt." newsgroups that I subscribe to, one of the participants once offered $3,000 for the physical identity, location and telephone number of some guy from Valencia whose opinions were annoying him. He had a scheme to pay the anonymous informer using PayPal and everything. Maybe it was a joke, maybe not. If you want to conceal your real identity and avoid a whole slew of problems, then do so. If it gives you a macho thrill to use your real name, secure in the knowledge that you have plenty of buckshot in your ammunition closet, then do that too. But please don't stoop to calling people cowards. That is something worthy of the Vista newsgroup. If you don't trust anyone who won't use his or her real name, then you close yourself off from a large percentage of the most useful information posted here. The irony is that "David Spencer Hines" has posted under the fake name "Julia294" (or vice versa?). If it's cowardly to do so, then he/she's a coward him/herself. But then, we knew that already. I use my real name because I have nothing to hide, because most hostile
posters never carry their intentions beyond the keyboard and because Colorado is a "make my day law" state. I have seen some people posting though, who really shouldn't. These groups aren't so bad, but the Vista group... It's understandable, given the subject matter, but 99.99% of posts are a waste of time. Just try to get a question about Vista answered. Half the people who answer have no idea, and the rest want you to join their crusade. Sometimes, someone with a clue posts a response. Check out the flame war in rec.autos.makers.jeep+willys and alt.binaries.pictures.autos. "I'm going to send you a subpoena", "Where's my subpoena, xxxxxxxxxx?", then one of the participants found some kind of mail-bomb spammer software and all hell broke loose. He seemed like a completely normal person at first too. Don't even mention the spammers and Nigerian inheritance scams... Sometimes I upload a video to YouTube, but I haven't become anyone's "friend" yet, despite numerous offers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQA-7Yj456g Maynard has since figured out, that he can only turn the machine backwards, and that this doesn't get him any more cat food than he's going to get if he leaves it alone. Sometimes, cats are smarter than humans. Earle "...winston" wrote in message ... Earle...is it becoming clear yet ? -- ...winston ms-mvp mail |

Twaddle...
Not the same thing at all as hiding behind a pseudonym on the Internet. DSH Lux et Veritas et Libertas "N. Miller" wrote in message ... Ever read any of Samuel Clemens' works? You probably will have better luck find his works listed under the author, "Mark Twain". I post under a number of pseudonyms for a number of reasons (admittedly some not so upstanding). You bet... Errant Twaddle...
Another little PFK who doesn't want the college admissions officers and employers to be able to trace him on the Internet. People who hide behind pseudonyms on the Internet get ZERO respect. 'Nuff Said. DSH Lux et Veritas et Libertas ---------------------------------------- "N. Miller" wrote in message ... ou don't need to know my "real" name; you only need to know if the persona I am using is consistent; whether consistently good, consistently right, consistently wrong, or consistently evil. |
