YW. It was likely due to the weather and Comcast did not know there was a
problem at the time. Most ISPs need quite a few complaints from the same
area before they will even check, let alone admit there is a problem.

I'm a little chilly myself. It's currently 57° and drizzling here in IB.

Thanks, Bruce. Actually, the problem has gone away as the day has
progressed. I believe that the ice storms and power outages up here are
what
REALY caused the problem, but Comcast has a reputation for evading and
avoiding the problem. I will keep you suggestions on file and will try
them
if needed.

What happens if you send a message from yourself, to yourself? Does it

What AV program do you have? (I know you tried with it off).

What is 'feld hell contest'?

How to troubleshoot error messages that you receive when try to send
and
receive e-mail in Outlook and in Outlook Express:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...14&Product=oex

Since it started abruptly today, it still could be Comcast. Having a
message
show up on the server's Webmail page does not mean it was successfully
forwarded to OE, so their theory that it must be OE does no hold water.
Comcast is well known for pushing problem on their end off on someone,
or
something else.

Just spent a frustrating hour with Concast who insist that the
inability I
have to receive emails via Outlokk Express is due to an update that
Microsoft
did either to Outlokk Express or to Windows XP or to the secuity
settngs.

This happens on two PCs, both Windows XP. Doesn't matter if virus
protection on (tried it both ways). I have already changed my port
setting
to 587. Did that two weeks ago and everything was fine, then this
morning
(12/13) the following error shows up:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible
causes
for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: , Server: 'mail.comcast.net',
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Comcast says since I can retrieve emails from the web (at
comcast.net)
then
it is not their problem. Does Microsoft have an answer?

Again - the port setting and smtp all other seetings are correct -
just as
they were yesterday when everything worked fine. Is anyone aware of
an
update to Microsoft XP or XP-related products that would cause this,
because
Comcast refuses to aknowledge even the remote chance it is their
problem.
