Average Line - Excel 2003
I am trying to insert an average line in a chart. I have read some of the
posts and tried the suggested instructions and I am just not getting this to work. I have a column chart that has 11 locations and totals for each, I have calculated an average - how do I insert an average bar without having to list the average multiple times so it will go across each of the 11 locations. |

Average Line - Excel 2003
Hi,
If you don't want to list the average for each column and plot the series as a line, which is by far the easiest way, you can do it using an XY scatter and error bar. Use the Source Data dialog to add a new series. Change the series chart type to XY scatter markers only. Again using the source data dialog set the Y value to the cell with the average. Leave the x value empty. You should now have a single point, at the average value, in the middle of the first column. Select the point and add X error bar with a fixed plus value of the number of columns in your chart. Format error line as required.
