Default Non display of inbox mail.

I open outlook express and it downloads my messages, but
will not display them on the screen. I am advised that
program 'Not Responding' and screen remains blank except
for the outline of the page.
I tried to reload IE6, but it quits with the
message...'you have a newer version. Installation will
abort' and then leaves me lost.

Hi Bert,

There may be a damaged DBX file in the message store. From your description
it could well be the Inbox. Before downloading messages can you open other
Outlook Express folders and open messages? Another reason for the program
not responding is damaged registry information. I'd start with the message
store first. Move message if you can from folders to be deleted or renamed.
Renaming gives you a chance to later import messages from the file.

Third-party filtering software or (anti-virus) e-mail message scan can also
cause problems.

You can change the order from that below.

This behavior can occur if the client mail store contains a damaged .dbx
file. The damaged file is probably Outbox.dbx, Inbox.dbx, or Sent Items.dbx.

To resolve this behavior, remove the damaged .dbx file:

1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click
Windows Explorer.
2. In Windows Explorer, on the Tools menu, point to Find, and then click
Files or Folders.
3. You may need to include hidden files and folders (Windows 2000 and XP).
4. Type Outbox.dbx in the Named box, and then click Find Now.
5. Right-click the file name, and then click Rename.
6. Rename the file to Outbox.old.

Note that deleting a .dbx file also deletes any e-mail messages or other
data in the folder. The Store folder can be found in Tools, Options,
Maintenance tab.Store Folder. The text for the path can be copied using a
right-click and then entered in the Start, Run box. OK to open the Store
folder. Each identity has its own Store folder. Disregard this method if
Outlook Express cannot be opened.

Restart Outlook Express.

If you still receive the error message, repeat these steps to rename or
delete the Sent Items.dbx file and the Inbox.dbx file.

Open the Store Folder

Instead of using search the store folder can be opened directly. Each
identity has its own store folder.

a.. In Outlook Express click on Tools, Options, Maintenance tab...Store
Folder.
b.. Place the cursor at the left of the text of the path to the folder.
c.. Drag the cursor to the right until the text scrolls to the end.
d.. Right-click on the text and choose Copy.
e.. In the Start, Run box right-click Paste. Click OK to open the store
folder.

1. Quit Outlook Express.

2. Right-click the Start button, and then click Find or Search.

3. Search for the Deleted Items.dbx file. You may need to include
hidden files and folders.

4. Right-click the file, click Delete, and then click Yes.

5. Start Outlook Express, and then try again to delete a message.

Using Keyboard Shortcuts for the Alternate Method

An even easier method when opening that page is to use the Tab to
highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C and close OE, then use Start/Run
and Ctrl+V. Same caveat about hidden files applies but can be easily
modified in Explorer by using Tools/Folder Options.
