WOW! As professional as you've been in your previous posts this is
certainly unexpected behavior. A simple explanation would have
sufficed and I would have gladly offered you an apology.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

I didn't swear and she accused me of doing something illegal which I took
great offense to. I don't do things illegally and it's not my fault that I
have been working with computers since 1987 and know more people and ways to
fix things than she does. Perhaps I was a little hotheaded and to the REST
of the community I apologize. But not to Beth Melton. She should think
before she responds as the new law enacted 1/1/06 states if someone posts a
falsehood about someone else wheather it be in a blog, forum, or website it's
a sueable offense. She had no right to speak of me like that when she had no
idea what the fix to his problem was and what I personally was going to do to
help the man. Certifications do mean something in MS's world, it means that
the carrier has the knowledge, determination and the creditionals to back up
what they are saying. It also means that I cannot perform any illegal actions
or I lose my certifications that I worked so hard to obtain. I'm sorry if I
offended the rest of the community...but had Beth Melton not hinted that I
was going to do something illegal to help someone I wouldn't have gotten so
mad at HER not anyone else just HER. If I could have written her directley,
my lawyer would have done so. Again I apoligize to you and the rest of the

Deborah Jean,

I've only been here a few months but by and large I have found people to be
polite and friendly - and also incredibly knowledgeable, with or without
qualifications or badges of honour. I defy anyone to hang around here for
long without learning something.

In my experience, general 'netiquette' disfavours taking problems offline,
and certainly not until reasonable steps have been taken to address the
issues online, as it makes the archive a far less valuable resource.
Questions about licensing or, more particularly, ways round licensing are
always difficult because, even if the poster is genuine, those who come
along later may not be, and are generally answered, if at all, only in the
broadest of terms.

I do not know anything about OEM licences and, so, cannot comment on the
actual answers to this question but your first brief post looked suspicious
to me and, obviously, to others. I don't know you; until last week I hadn't
noticed any posts by you and suddenly I see you offering to help with a
licensing issue, offline, via what looks like a throwaway e-mail address.
What would you think if you saw someone else post in a similar fashion?

You could have avoided the comments if you had added a little more detail to
your first post, but what really amazes me is your rude over-reaction to
them. You would get ostracized from many societies for that kind of
behaviour and no amount of qualifications or legal knowledge would help in
mitigation, and the only person likely to benefit at all would seem to be
your lawyer. I don't know Beth Melton any more than I know you, although I
have seen her good responses to many many posts, but I would say you owe her
more of an apology than you owe the rest of the community. Your comments
here discredit both you and the newsgroup.

Enjoy,
Tony

Hi Jirka,

I just realized I did make a mistake in this thread and that was I
didn't provide an answer to your question. I apologize for getting
distracted by the 'side thread'.

To answer your question, if you have an OEM installation of Office you
can obtain a new Product Key from Microsoft if the Office application
is still supported by Microsoft.

The procedure is to first contact the OEM and request a new key. Then,
if the OEM will not provide a replacement key contact Microsoft and
explain the problem to them. They should generate a new key for you,
however, you could incur a nominal fee for this service. Note the
'nominal fee' may be $10 USD (not 1/2 price).

Contact information is (800) 936-5700 or if outside the US see this
site: http://microsoft.com/worldwide

Here are a couple of additional notes for others who may be following
this thread:

This answer has been provided in this group, and others, several times
and it is public information: Here's a Google Group search on past
posts:
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...&qt_s=Sea rch

Also, there was a time Microsoft would not supply those with an OEM
version of Office a replacement Product Key. One of my 'crusades' as
an Microsoft Office MVP was do my best to try and change this policy
and I tackled it at every opportunity, such as at the MVP summits in
which we have access to product managers, dev teams, and various
softies. Now, I don't know if I had any impact on the change (I'd like
to think I did grin) but since I asked about this policy at every
opportunity it enabled me to learn of change in the 'OEM Product Key
policy' which I could pass on to others. :-)

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for

You are correct, Microsoft does provide replacement product keys for
OEM users. However, there is no need to request a personal favor to
obtain one - nor is the cost 1/2 price.

If you are interested in learning more on how OEM users can obtain a
new product key see my reply to the OP later in this thread.

Beth,
Before I take my leave of this forum as it has become a joke people telling
people the wrong fix just to mess them up more. Not on this thread, I'm
sorry I lost my temper. My husband died that day and I was just on here
trying to forget about it. I meant simply to help Jirka and not give up an
address that was entrusted to me years ago. A few colleges and myself have
written a program that you and the rest of the forum may find useful.
Assuming it is ran before they delete the Office suite it will give them the
OEM's cd key. It called Belarc. You can google it and download a lite
version for free. Perhaps, since I am leaving and focusing on teaching, you
and Tony and Millie and Mary Sauer could pass this on to anyone. Remember it
has to be ran before they delete office or any other registered program, and
it can be run in Safe Mode. I'm sorry for my behaviour this last week. It's
difficult to stand there and watch your husband of 26 years convulse 5-6
times a minute for 4 days until a Doctor finally decides that he's brain
dead. (something any layman could have said on day one) and that you can
finally sign the DNR papers. And then to stand helplessly by while they pull
all the tubes and you watch your soulmate of over 2 decades take his final
rasping breath. 49 years old is too young by any measure. I know this is no
excuse for the way I acted and the things I had no right to say to you...I
just hope that you can understand I wasn't mad at you, but at the world...and
therefore I think I should take my leave of this forum before I hurt someone
as obviously nice as yourself. You didn't scream back at me or anything as a
matter of fact you complemented me on my previous answers. That shows great
character, I'm sorry mine was not up to standard at the time, I hope you will
all understand, and that you personally will find it in that great heart of
yours to forgive me. Perhaps I'll return in a year or so when my personal
life is not such a mess that I say things without thinking. I apoligize to
the forum, well everyone except the comedians who shouldn't be here to begin
with...and I quote, not anyone on this list it was a publisher issue. "boy
you're dumb dud (yes I spelled it correctly) just go to google and ask, man,
you must be braindead or something" the man just asked why his computer froze
after inserting clipart. He had just updated to 2003 and hadn't done the
"organize your clipart" phase of it.), but especially Beth, I personally
apoligize to you, I always tell my students that your personal life ends at
the door. But this one's a tough one and keeps sneaking in my windows, when
I least expect it. I don't blame you for not forgiving me...i just wanted
you to know that I ask your forgiveness, though my husband dying is not an
excuse for bad behaviour and insults to you or anyone personally. I will
miss most of you. Not the comedians of course but all of you who have put
your time and soul into helping everyone you can. Remember Beth and the rest
of you Belarc will help you solve alot of problems, because, trust me once
people know you're part of a forum to help people they'll expect you to make
housecalls and solve their problems. It's a must have program if you have to
uninstall anything. Or, the good Lord save us from this, you have to fdisk
and reformat. Again Beth, I'm sorry, and for the good of the forum itself I
am removing myself until I feel like I can speak again without biting a good
person's head off.
I also apoligize to the community itself. I've made some great friends here
and if any of you need me to walk you thru belarc the first time or just want
to yell at me for being an idiot, unfeeling jerk write me at
With that I bid you all adieu, and be careful what you to
someone you love when you walk out the door, because you never know when they
might be called to their reward. At least our last words to each other were
I love you, I love you, too. Just like everyday, oh there I go again
dragging you into my personal life, just please forgive me and try to
understand that hateful person, the other day was not myself, not myself at
all. Especially to you Beth, I'm sure if I were to stay we would have become
good friends.

Thank you for your time, all of you,
I hope each and every one of you can find it in your heart to forgive my
unthinkable behaviour. It's really not who I am at all.

Hi Deborah Jean,

I am very sorry to hear of your loss; in the circumstances my comments seem
out of place. I do know something of what you are going through but no words
of mine are likely to help and I can only send you my heartfelt condolences.
Take your time, for time is a great healer, and come back if and when you
are ready - you will be welcome.

I like Belarc and have recommended it here and on other fora. Well done for
writing it.

With kindest Regards,
Tony

lost the
CD key for my Office 2003. Is there any way I can, upon proving that
I do
have a genuine OEM MS product, get a new key?
Thanks for any help

No it wasn't you that was out of line it was me, especially to beth I can not
express how badly I feel for jumping down her throat for no good cause.
thank you for your condolances. He was sick a very long time and I know he
was just waiting to die, doesn't make it easier, I have a great support group
with the people I work with at the college...and I know...time....how long I
wonder 26 years we were married, I miss him everytime I walk in this house
that's why I was on the forum that day, when clearly I shouldn't have been.
I will return one day...like you said time. Did you lose your spouse too?
Thanks for the kuddos on Belarc but I didn't write it alone. It is helpful
and in the future we will add in where one can read all the embedded info on
the cd, dvd, floppy drive or travel drive. maybe that's what I'll do with
all this alone time. That way I'm only cussing out a program and not a
person. If you see Beth typing would you make sure she reads my apology it
was from the heart and I do want her to see it.

Thanks Tony,
see you at a future date.

Hi Deborah,

I am SO sorry to hear of your loss. :-(

You know, we're human and an aspect being human is we make mistakes.
Another aspect is we are always learning, and learning from the
mistakes we make is what makes us 'better humans'. But not everyone
has learned it's okay to admit when we're wrong and that we gain far
more respect when we do.

I truly appreciate you taking the time to make amends and that's a
quality I find admirable and *of course* I accept your apology. :-)
(Trust me, I've been flamed far worse through the years - it just
comes with the territory.)

If truth be told, when I replied to your post I didn't realize it was
you. It certainly wasn't one of your typical posts: very helpful and
detailed, nor did it include your customary signature. We see a *lot*
of 'offers to share keys' around here and it looked like yet another
suspicious offer. Had I noted it was from someone who has been helping
out in the group I still would have questioned it - but not in the
same manner as I did. Once I read your reply and realized it was you I
felt badly for not paying closer attention before firing off my post.
I sincerely apologize for casting suspicion on you in this group - by
no means was I attempting to personally attack you.

I DO hope you plan on sticking around. I found your posts
knowledgeable and professional and, as you have observed, folks who
are willing to help are an asset to the group. You'll always be
welcome around here. :-)

(btw, Belarc has been recommended in this group many times and I've
used it myself upon occasion. Thanks for helping to create such a
valuable resource.)

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.

I am sooo glad you read my apoligy, I sincerley meant each and every word.
I'm going to take a break for a while I need to not be mad at the world,
grass, clouds or anything else. I totally lost it and I totally am sorry.
I've read your post too and admire your professionalism. No it wasn't one of
my typical posts but it wasn't a typical day. Now I have this "person"
following me from post to post insulting me and calling me a liar. Didn't
the FBI just write a law saying you can't publish an untruth or harass
someone. I'm going to take a sabatical for 6-12 months and then I'll be back
I do enjoy helping people which is probably why I teach. I was sending my
best students here to help out and build their self esteem and reenforce what
they have learned but as long as Margolotta is out there I don't think so.
She accused me of lying about my Certs and (if you can believe this) about my
husband dying. Who would lie about that? Do me one last favor would
you...go and search for all her posts...she never helps anyone, insults
everyone and doesn't even have a valid email account. Is there something we
can do about that? I would love to turn her into the FBI and their new law
but I'm not sure if my emotions are interferring again. Excuse my last post
to her but she called me a liar about Pierce and that's a real hot button,
when the rest of you have been so understanding. I will be back, but I need
to come back when I'm more myself. Tony said that he's been thru something
like this and it takes time. 26 years is a long time to spend with one's
soulmate and I thank the good lord for those years.
I'm so glad you read my apoligy because I do respect you and your
intelligence. I'll miss you but I WILL BE BACK. Meanwhile I can't deal with
airheads (opps there's that mad at the world feeling again, sorry) like
Margolotta go search her responses when she does deem someone worthy of an
answer it's the wrong one. Tell me if I'm over reacting and I'll trust your
judgement more than mine right now and I will not turn her in, but if you
agree, let me do the dirty work. She'll be gone by the time I come back and
trust me you don't want her harrassing you every single day. I do enjoy this
and most of the people I've met. I'll miss you all for a little bit but I
think you can live without my crappie attitude, like Tony says it takes time.
Maybe I'll work on Belarc so it can read embedded info in the cd, dvd,
floppy and travel drives. Does MS embed the cd key on the cd? Some
companies do so it would be worthwhile anyway and then all I'll be yelling at
is programming code. I will miss you, Tony, Mary, Ed and most of all Granny
she's a sassy ol woman. Let me know about Margolotta, please tell me I'm not
insane and she is insulting every one lately of course she's focused on me.
If she is, something needs to be done. When you are searching though forgive
my last two responses to her. I know she's yanking my chain because she gets
off on my reaction...but now is not a good time.

I will be back I do enjoy this and you guys to much to be gone for too long,
just long enough to get my head back together. If you ever ever find
yourself in West Texas, look up APC I'd love to meet you in person and take
you out for dinner. I'm so glad you read my apology, because you are one of
the last people I ever wanted to take out this missplaced anger on. I
respect you and most people I have met here. Don't worry I'll be back before
you know it.

Miss ya'll,
Deborah Jean.

to think I did grin) but since I asked about this policy at every
opportunity it enabled me to learn of change in the 'OEM Product
Key
policy' which I could pass on to others. :-)

My system has recently crashed and after reinstal I realized that
I
lost the
CD key for my Office 2003. Is there any way I can, upon proving
that
I do
have a genuine OEM MS product, get a new key?
Thanks for any help
Jirka
