Default Mail merge existing document default location

In Outlook 2002 Tools/Mail Merge allows me to select an existing document.
The default folder is My Documents.

We have our merge documents in a shared network folder. Is there a way to
change the default folder so that the users don't have to browse thru
numerous folders to get to the existing merge document?

You can change the default location for all your docs but not just mail merge, as far as I know. See the following Knowledge Base article

Add a shortcut to the Places Bar -

or add the merge document to the work menu.
