Default Question about document emailed to me that really is a template

For some reason, I thought that I would get the same file sent to me the
way they have it at the other computer. What I got was a file with a doc
extension. The way the file works on the other computer, when you
double-click it, up comes a box where you type in information, like name
rank and serial number, it is then placed into the document. I can see
on the file that was sent to me where these things suppose to go to. Did
they miss sending me another part to the file, so I can use it properly?
I hope I made a little sense here, if not please ask me again, I like to
start using this form, and have it filled in, in the right places. Maybe
they suppose to send me a template file instead? Any help is
appreciated......Peter

It's possible that they forgot to send you the template that goes with this file and which contains the macros that are making all this work. It's also possible they sent it and your email process (especially if it's Exchange Server/Outlook) stripped it as a potentially harmful file containing macros

Thank you for the info, I had no idea that there may be another file
like a template file. I'll look for it, and write back. I appreciate
your help............Peter

Default Question about document emailed to me that really is a template

Well, this time it worked. I have no idea how the file came over as a
..doc instead of a template file. I was also a little confused, because
once the MS Word went through the box fill in procedure, you know, where
it asks you for the fill in information, it didn't give me a print view,
and I thought it was not completed and something went wrong. It had all
the macro script in the designated places, but not the info I put in
there. It did fill out everything when it printed. Thanks for your help
and your motivation................Peter
