I just bought a new Compaq Presario Desktop that came preloaded with a 60 day
trial version of Office 2003 but I already have a copy of Office Professional
2003. I have tried to load the 2003 but I keep getting the error message
"Installation Package could not be opened." The system hangs when trying to
install pro11.msi. I have spent hours on the phone with Compaq / HP with no
help and they told me to contact Microsoft. I have reinstalled everything
and nothing works. I have tried deleting the trial versions both before and
after trying to install Pro 2003 with no luck. I have advanced the date 65
days and then uninstalled the trial version using Add / Remove programs and
that didn't help. I have followed the directions on KB 828380 and neither
option worked. If I try to install using the PATH change option it tells me
that this cannot be used unless the software is installed. I have tried the
PATH change with the trial version being activated and not-activated and the
same error occured. I have tried the other version of modifying the
windows\installer files but there are none that show being related to Office
or any of the modules so there was nothing to delete or change. I have
successfully installed Office 2002 with no problems and have successfully
installed PRO on my HP laptop and another HP desktop with no problems so I
know the disk is fine. Any help available? I cannot be the only human on
the planet Earth who bought this model of HP computer and wants to install
Office Pro 2003, can I?

I have the same problem. I searched the Windows/Installer folder but could
find no msi files where Office was the subject. After I enter the Product
Code, I get a message saying, "MicroSoft Office cannot continue because the
installation source has been corrupted." I've never run into a problem like
this before, and it's driving me nuts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
