Please make a version of Visio available for Win2K Pro users!
Visio 2007 does not run under Win2K Pro, and I want to be able to open Visio
files from a customer. I downloaded Visio 2007 as a trial & was considering buying it, but I don't expect to buy a new PC in the immediate future. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. you can either use the visio viewer to open them, or have them save it as
v2003 and you can use your visio to work on them (with the obvious exception of if they require specific v2007 functionality) al "RG" wrote: Visio 2007 does not run under Win2K Pro, and I want to be able to open Visio files from a customer. Please make a version of Visio available for Win2K Pro users!
This works *only* if you *already* have Visio installed somewhere. There is
*no* provision by Microsoft to allow a user with Win2K Pro to obtain a working copy of Visio (the 2007 version requires XP or Vista). Since the Visio Viewer doesn't permit copying text from a file (it only permits viewing the file within IE) I asked my customer to print their Visio files to *.PDF format. However, the results spread many blocks across the pages, so I cannot easily grab bits of text from the results. Any other options? Workarounds? Tools? I really can't go back to the customer & request another kind of output. If you're just after the text the you could get your customer to run a
report to Excel depending on which properties you're after. Another option might be to get them to save the file in XML format (.vdx), which you could then open in Notepad etc. If you already have the 2007 file and don't want to go back to your customer for the above then I'd be happy for you to send it to me and I'll do one of the above and send it back to you. Try and get a copy of Visio 2003, the file format is the same as Visio 2007,
but Visio 2003 should run on Win2K. Of course, trying to get a hold of a copy of Visio 2003 may be tricky since it has been replaced by Visio 2007. Another option would be to install VPC and run Visio 2007 within that. John... Please make a version of Visio available for Win2K Pro users!
John, thanks for your offer. At the time, I was in such a rush I exported to
XML format and then laboriously copied and pasted text as necessary. I like Visio, and would like to buy a copy for my Win2KPro PC through Amazon or one of the other "remaindered software" sites. However, I'm unsure what's most useful (Pro or regular, etc.) and have never bought "used" software (so I'm uncomfortable with "good condition re-boxed" and so on). Any recommendations you or the other folks here might have would be greatly appreciated.
