Default Outlook 2003 connecting to Exchange

When trying to set up Outlook for Exchange, we get the message:
"The selection specification is too complex. Use fewer or less complex
restrictions"

What does this mean? We cannot get past this. This msg occurs when trying
to 'check the name' in the opening window.
