Default Can't open

I have installed outlook 2003 from office 2003 proffensional. I have tried
to configue it to send/recieve emails from my school's exchange server. I
later found out that I can't but know i'n left with a truck load of problems!
When I open Outlook 2003 a message box comes up saying "The connection to the
Microsoft Exchange Sever in unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected
to complete this action." The only option is an OK button, I click that then
it tells me to enter my infomation about the exchange sever, as I found out
it is not possible to use it :'(. Anyway, when I click Cancel this comes up
"Unable to open your default emails folder." I click OK then Outlook shuts
down. I would like to reset Outlook or something so I can go to the tools
menu and make a new email account. Anyone able to help?
Thanks

In Control Panel, open the Mail applet and click the E-mail Accounts button.
Remove the Exchange account there and add in the type of account you want.

Since Outlook isn't open while you're doing this, how can it "shut down"?
