Default Detect and repair...

What is this feature supposed to be used for? What exactly does it
change? Is it simply a clean/entire re-installation of MS Word and MS
Office applications, or does it "intelligently" and incrementally
re-install only certain components? How often should it be used?

Thanks,

Default

It replaces missing/changed program files and resets some registry entries.
It does not change user settings (including the user settings in the
registry).
It rarely does anything useful during the normal course of things.

If you are having problems
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...peningWord.htm will suggest the
means to correct more of the things that actually go wrong.
