Default WMV files.

Has anyone found a solution to opening wmv files in OE-6. My associations
are set and I can open them from my hard drive but I can't in OE6.

Save the attachment to your HDD. Right click on it and Open With | Choose
Program. Select Windows Media Player and then check the box: Always use
this program to open this kind of file. This should enable you to open
these attachments in the future.

I tried that as suggested in a previous post. WMV files will open from the
HD but not from OE-6

Are these WMV files attachments or embedded in an HTML message?

If the latter, are you creating these messages and then sending them to
yourself as a test?

What happens when you try to open WMV attachments? Post any error messages
in their entirety.

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?

Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?

Tip: Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no
additional protection, it may be causing the problem, and even Symantec says
it's not necessary:

QP
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

I get an alert that says" This file does not have a program associated with
it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder options
control panel.
