moved pst files, moved them back, can't open outlook 2007
I'm sorry, what you say makes no sense to me...
Page two of the instructions say: When you are done creating the mail profile (I did this) you might want to add a pst-file to it like your original pst-file (I do) or an archive file. To do this open Outlook and choose; File-Open-Outlook Data File... I don't know what my next step is. I have the two Outlook files in the c drive (Outlook and Outlook1) and the original Outlook file I moved to the d drive, which is my original pst files... I don't see in this paper what exactly buttons i push in exactly the right order to get my original pst files back to the c drive so i can sync my phone with outlook again. "DL" wrote: You DONT copy pst files to the default location, locate copied pst's at some othe location, eg Documents folder In creating the new Profile add the data file from that location "jmsdvdp" wrote in message news Thanks. I got a new profile made I guess. But I can't get my old pst files into it. I copied them into the C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook location, but then outlook went back to the same error messages and wouldn't open. I made another profile, so I can get it opened, but for the life of me can't figure out from the article you both sent me what to do next. What steps do I take to get my original files back onto the c drive? They currently are on my d drive...This is way above my head. I'll settle for it staying on the c drive if i can just get my files back into outlook...thanks again.. "DL" wrote: Copy (that preserves your origonal) http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm "jmsdvdp" wrote in message ... I copy, not move? I can't get into outlook to do anything. Once this is done, do I just move my pst files back to where? I'm pretty new at this outlook thing. Thanks for the help. "DL" wrote: Sounds like you may have corrupted the profile, Create a new Outlook Profile - not copy - (prompt for Profile)add the data file, from your prefered location, add the accounts & test "jmsdvdp" wrote in message ... I wanted to move my outlook files onto a second hard drive in my computer that I have all my data files on for backup purposes. I moved, not copied, my files from: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook to D:\MyDocuments\Outlook . When I started outlook up again, I pointed outlook where to look for the files, and it worked just fine. When I tried to sync my phone with outlook, I got the error message that the phone could not sync with outlook; don't remember exactly what it said. I moved the files back to the original location on the C:\ drive. When I open outlook now, I get the following error message: Cannot open your default e-mail folders. File access is denied. You do not have the permission required to access the file C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\ Outlook.pst . When I click ok, the program closes. So, I moved the file back to the D:\ drive and when I open outlook I get the following message: The file C:\Users|UserName|AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\ Outlook.pst cannot be found. When I click the ok button, I get a Create/Open Personal Folders File box that shows the pst file in D:\ where I put it. When I click ok, I get the following: File access is denied. You do not have the permission required to access the file D:\MyDocuments\Outlook\Outlook.pst. When I click ok, it goes back to the Create/Open Personal Folders File. I click cancel 2x and the box will close and outlook closes. What can I do? |

Instead, use the Mail applet in Control Panel and select the PST that you want to be your delivery location (i.e., which PST will contain the folder you want to be the default folders). Do this on the Data Files tab of the Mail applet. You can then remove the other PST from the mail profile if you wish. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

State more clearly what you did. State more clearly the problem you are
having now. Be complete and specific. Include Outlook version. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Dan Steer" wrote in message ... i have the same problem right now and i've actually lost all the normal "inbox" info as well (i moved the "outlook pst" as well as my own created psts. i can't open anything, can't access my contacts, calendar etc.. help! jmsdvd wrote: moved pst files, moved them back, can't open outlook 2007 16-Jan-09 I wanted to move my outlook files onto a second hard drive in my computer that I have all my data files on for backup purposes. When you move the pst you need to point the profile to it before opening
outlook. You probably hosed the profile - for most people, the quick fix is a new profile.
