Default Disappearing guidelines - Powerpoint 2007

My horizontal and vertical guidelines keep on disappearing every time I
scroll or zoom in / out of the page. I press alt+f9, which seems to turn
some guidelines on and others off, but I can't get the guidelines to stay.

Is there anything I can do?
