Which forum or website are the regulars switching to?
Just wondering where all the regulars are going to when the access related
newsgroups shut down? I have never used a Microsoft Forum, I guess I could switch to utteraccess? I always found these newsgroups better and easier to use. Mark Andrews RPT Software http://www.rptsoftware.com http://www.donationmanagementsoftware.com |

Which forum or website are the regulars switching to?
I'm already "back" in the USENET newsgroup comp.databases.ms-access; traffic
there is low, compared to even a year ago, but quite a numbr of my MVP colleagues have indicated they'll be monitoring it. I'm waiting for the Microsoft forums to "settle" and for Access to be assigned its own category (not lumped in "Other" with other Microsoft products, e.g., InfoPath) before I bother wasting my time "looking into that option" because until that happens, I don't even have to try it to know that it's unacceptable to me. If your ISP does not have its own news server, you'll need to get one. On good advice from colleagues, I signed up with "news.individual.net" run by the Free University of Berlin... not free, but not expensive, either (10 euros per year). Several free news servers have also been recommended -- one I remember is called "Eternal September". -- Larry Linson, Microsoft Office Access MVP Co-author: "Microsoft Access Small Business Solutions", published by Wiley Access newsgroup support is alive and well in USENET comp.databases.ms-access "Mark Andrews" wrote in message ... FYI: I gave Eternal September a try and it seems to work fine (you just need
to register to get a userid/password). However, the comp.databases.ms-access newsgroup doesn't seem to have much activity. I'm wondering if the normal everyday user will be accessing it? Does that "newsgroup bridge" for the microsoft forums work? I never tried any microsoft forums. Hoping I can stick with a newsgroup reader? Does utteraccess have any newsgroup reader access? haven't used that one much either. I think I tried a few questions and got a bunch of answers that don't really answer the question asked. Before this thing goes down it would be great if we knew where the normal group of access experts are going to. I hate asking questions in some groups where I'm always smarter than the guy answering the question. This newsgroup has held up a high level of expertise, so I need to track where all the smart guys are going so I have a chance at getting some difficult questions answered! Quick answers also help, otherwise I tend to go figure it out myself. Also I want to help answer a few questions when time permits. Thanks, Mark "Larry Linson" wrote in message ... In the last 24 hours or so, the Eternal September news server had 22 new posts (I record the new posts for 3 different news servers). The average since Jan. 20th (when I started a new spreadsheet) is just under 14 posts. This compares to Newsguy.com, which I pay for, that has averaged just under 20 in the same period for that newsgroup. Does that "newsgroup bridge" for the microsoft forums work? I never tried any microsoft forums. Hoping I can stick with a newsgroup reader? It theoretically works, but I haven't found it usable. Does utteraccess have any newsgroup reader access? haven't used that one much either. I think I tried a few questions and got a bunch of answers that don't really answer the question asked. I doubt that they have it, as they want to control content way too much for them to open it up to posting from other servers. Before this thing goes down it would be great if we knew where the normal group of access experts are going to. I'm staying where I am which is: comp.databases.ms-access microsoft.publis.access.* www.access-programmers.co.uk Stackoverflow.com I monitor and post in all those forums on a daily basis. -- David W. Which forum or website are the regulars switching to?
Good to know! I just saw that this forum for example (for May 28th) has
like 18 top level questions and comp.databases.ms-access has 2 questions. The other access related forums on Microsoft.public.access.* had about 8 top level questions for May 28th. Maybe when Microsoft.public.access.* goes away comp.databases.ms-access will increase? Just looking for a good one to switch to. Thanks, Mark "David W. Fenton" wrote in message 36.90... I hate asking questions in some groups where I'm always smarter than the
guy answering the question. Oooh... I wonder what that would feel like! I gotta look for those groups - strangely, this hasn't happened to me in *any* of the groups I've been part of! I wonder why....g -- Fred Boer - Amateur Access Enthusiast Interests: Library software / Z39.50 / Web Services Freeware Small Library Application available he http://www3.sympatico.ca/lornarourke/ "Mark Andrews" wrote in message ...
