Default installing Office xp

I purchased a new computer and I've installed my Office xp 2002 discs.
However, when I want to view documents that I saved, such as an excel
spreadsheet, I keep getting it displayed in the Office 2007 format, which
won't allow me to modify my spreadsheet. How can I get rid of the Office
2007 format (I don't want to upgrade to 2007--I want my 2002 format)

Did you uninstall the Office 2007 Trial and the Activation Assistant that came with
your computer prior to installing your Office XP

You have to Uninstall the Free Trial Version AND the Activation Assistant,
then install Office '02.
