Default Comical Situation

I recently bought a 3 license copy of Office 2007 at Staples for $ 149 and
installed it on three computers. I now have removed it from my old laptop and
attempted to activate it on a new laptop built by Lenova. After repeatedly
getting error message using the product activation key on the cd case, I
called Microsoft. Here's what I learned: The copy of Office you have is
licensed for India. You can run it on a computer in the United States after
an initial install but you can't uninstall and use it on other machine
here... this from support personel whose English is badly tainted.. What? A
fee of $49 for technical help? But I already paid $149... You mean a company
as successful as MS does not have a solution to help customers such as myself
who find themselves in this situation? So I was offered a phone number for
Lenovo... ooops turns out it's the wrong number

There is something to this story that you are not making clear, either to us
or to the Tech Support people.

I recently (in the past 30 days) replaced a motherboard with CPU and RAM,
then reinstalled Win XP Home, and the Activation Assistant refused to work
at all, but the Product Key went in fine.

It turns out my copy of XP is an OEM version for Dell, and the substantial
changes I made to the system caused a meltdown of the Activation process. In
any event, MSoft issued a new Product Key and the Activation Assistant
worked. It further turns out that the problem I was having might have been
rooted in the fact that I was doing a Repair Installation, and what fixed
the problem was that I finally did a Fresh Install. Either way, MSoft was
very helpful and worked on my problem for more than an hour on the phone
without charging me. I did have to talk with Rasshid, and that was a bit
tedius at times, but this is the only area where MSoft could make an
improvement to the service I got -- the language barrier is annoying.

You should be able to do a new install onto a machine that replaces a
previous install. I don't know why Staples would be selling India software,
nor do I understand why it matters to your issue.

Phone on line activation again, hopefully you will speak to someone better
informed who doesn't give a complete nonsensical response, if they do ask to
speak with a supervisor.
Its immaterial where purchased, an English version is an English version no
matter what country

Obviously you have Home and Student edition of Office 2007 as this is the
only edition that allows installation onto 3 computers. Follow DL's advice
about phone activation. The reason you probably are getting hit with this
is that MS only allows transfer of licenses from one system to another after
90 days have passed and you would be required to use telephone activation if
before that time or in some cases for the 4th machine activation (which is
your case here.)

One other issue is to ensure that you have removed any trial version of the
software and any associated activation wizard and reboot the system before
installing the paid for version of Office.
