Shading gaps between paragraph styles
Word 2000 on XP OS - Styles include space before and
after. 12 pt. font size w/leading set to exactly 15 points. Need to shade only certain paragraphs. When style changes (ex. from Normal to Bullet Level 1 to Bullet Level 2) there are gaps between the styles where shading stops, so a white space prints. If same style follows itself, there is no gap. Went to Format Borders and Shading Borders tab Options button (Apply to: Paragraph). Apparently the "space from" options are only for borders, but I need them to be for shading to fill in the gaps. How can this be done? |

Shading gaps between paragraph styles
Hi JT,
You'll probably have to remove the "Space before/after" manually from the paragraphs above and below the gap, to get rid of the gap, and then apply borders to get the same spacing between paragraphs as before (15 pt + 12 pt). That is a lot of fiddling. It may be simpler to use a borderless table, and shading applied to the cells instead of the paragraphs. You'll probably need to change the space before/after to 6 pt, since Word will use the larger of both values in paragraphs (that is, 12 pt in your case), whereas the space before/after always adds up in tables (6 pt + 6 pt = 12 pt). You could also use the top and bottom cell margins instead of "paragraph space before/after"... it shouldn't make a difference.
