How do I do it ???
I just purchased a new computer and I'm trying to install
my copy of "Office XP Standard". It will not let me install this program as it needs to find a previous version of this product. There is no previous copy of any MSOffice on this "NEW" computer. How do I install it or am I just out $249.00 ?? This is an upgrade only version. |

Hi, max. If you purchased an Upgrade version of Office XP, then you need to install a qualifying product on your new computer before you can install Office XP. For a list of qualifying products, see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290540.

You MAY be able to do this if you have the install CD from a qualifying product... but I've not done this myself, so it also may be that you have to have a qualifying product ON your computer, not just a CD in the drive John Thomas Smith http://www.direct2usales.com http://www.pacifier.com/~jtsmith |

If you have a Office 97 or Office 2000 CD, you don't have to install it to
get Office XP upgrade installed. Follow these steps: 1. Run the Setup program for Office XP. 2. Type the product key in the User Information dialog box, and then click OK. 3. In the Product Compliance Check dialog box, click your CD-ROM drive in the Drive list. 4. Eject the Office XP CD, and then insert CD1 from Office 2000 or Office 97. If you are using Office 2000 Small Business Edition, insert CD2. 5. Wait 30 seconds to allow the CD-ROM drive to spin up and recognize the new CD that you inserted. 6. Click OK in the Product Compliance Check dialog box. 7. When the Office XP End-User License Agreement appears, eject the previous version CD, and then insert your Office XP CD. Note If you do not eject your Office 2000 or Office 97 CD at this point, you receive an error message after the Office XP installation continues.
