Default Internal Error 3218 during re-installation / repair

HELP!!! I'm running Windows XP and Office XP SBE. Yesterday I started Outlook and a Wizard window popped up informing me that a significant change in my computer configuration has taken place and I must re-register Office XP. This would not be a big deal seeing as I have my original retail CDs and case, except that the re-installation / repair crashes every time with an "internal error 2318", and references the file Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office 10/1033/ID_113.DHS.

I have full adminstrative permissions set, have done a system restore to an earlier date, tried updating Office XP with Service Pack 3 (which didn't install correctly either), and I'm at a loss!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks garfield-n-odie. I've already researched that option and it does not apply to Office XP, only Office 2000. The error code is also a different number.

I have searched through the internet and Microsoft Knowledge base thoroughly and there is no mention of this specific error code anywhere in relation to Office XP.

I think I have the distinct honour of finding a brand new bug in Office XP.

Hi, ScottR. The subject line of your email says "error 3218", while the
body of your email says "error 2318", so I figured "2381" wasn't much of
a stretch.
