Default Outlook Express unable to open certain attachments

Hi

I have a problem with OE6. When trying to open certain types of attachments
(.doc, .pps, .pdf etc) directly from within OE, the associated application
opens correctly (Word, Acrobat reader etc) but an error message stating that
the file being opened cannot be found is generated. It refers to location
within the temporary internet files/content.ie5/ for the missing file. This
does not happen for all files, pictures, music, text files all open fine.

If you view the contents of the folder mentioned in the error message, the
file does not exist.

If the problem files are saved out of OE then opened, they open normally in
the appropriate application.

See if this helps:

Save the attachment to your HDD. Right click on it and Open With. Find and
choose a program that works and then check the box: Always use this program
to open this kind of file.

Take a look at the File Associations for the problem programs.

For example for PDF, I have
"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" "%1"
Note that the %1 at the end is in quotes. If the quotes are missing
that can cause the application to have problems opening the file if the
path name contains any spaces as the Temporary Internet Files (TIF)
does.

Note: you won't any attachments that OE has saved to the TIF if you look
via Internet Options or Windows Explorer. You have to open a Command
window and use "DOS" commands showing all files to see them.
