Default OE6 and Hotmail

I have a hotmail account which I have been using OE6 to download the mail
for years. I am in the process of switching notebooks and am unable to
download hotmail on the new notebook. I have checked the settings on both
computers to be sure they agree (both OE6 and IE).

On the new pc I get a window asking for username and password which it never
accepts. Eventually I get the error "access to the account was denied" with
an error number of 80004005 or 800ccc32.

I have check to be sure that ie security has hotmail.com as 'always accept'
for cookies.

It still works fine on the old PC just not on the new.

Any help would be appreciated.

- Check in Internet Explorer under Tools/Internet Options/Security that
the user has not changed the password setting from 'prompt for username
and password' to 'anonymous logon' in internet zone. The option setting
for anonymous logon may cause the error.

1. From your headers: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180

Check in at Windows Update, install all critical updates, reboot and then
try again.

2. Most of the time, the errors indicate problems on MSN/Hotmail's end
(despite what they may say). Here are some things you can check:

Make certain your time, date, and /time zone/ settings are correct.

How to Manage Cookies (IE6)
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283185

Troubleshooting Secure Sites in WinXP SP2
(Hotmail and .NET Passport should be treated as Secure Sites)
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=870700

Temporarily disable your third-party firewall, any "system" tools (NSW, NIS,
anything by Norton or McAfee) and pop-up/ad blockers to see if they're
interfering.

If you use a router, you may need to adjust MTU values:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315008

IE ToolsInternet OptionsAdvancedHTTP 1.1toggle on/off; "Use HTTP 1.1
through proxy connections" must *not* be checked.

IE ToolsInternet OptionsSecurity[zone in OE runs; should be Restricted
Sites]Custom LevelUser AuthenticationLogontoggle between the setting
choices here ['Prompt for Username and Password' and 'Automatic...current
Username...' works for me.]

Resetting either or both of the above Tabs to the defaults might help, too.
