Default Getting the "auto-fill" to work... and other questions..

Going from Outlook 2000 to 2003

Everything seems to be set up fine.
I have all my messages in the inbox and names in contacts but when I go to create an e-mail and start type an address the autofill does not work.

If I click :to I get a list of all the e-mail addresses but that's it. No autofill.

On a side note... What's the difference between contacts and address book? Do I need an address book if I have contacts?

And one more for the weird file...
I'm working on trying to figure this out on a test machine. Autofill is working on it so I was trying to figure out where that info was coming from. I deleted ALL contacts, ALL e-mail new and old and when I go to create an e-mail and start typing in an address... It STILL does autofill. WHERE is that info coming from? I have deleted everything that I can see?

THANKS!!

Out of curiosity why are you moving from 2000 to 2003? While the upgrade is
a good idea, you're upgrading to seven-year-old software?!

See if this helps at all: http://www.officeforlawyers.com/outlook/oab.html.
Pay attention to the Nickname cache - that answers your question about where
the mystery contacts are coming from.

That said, the Contacts folder in Outlook can be one of (or part of) the
address book.

If you start typing the name of a contact in the TO: field and press ALT+K
it doesn't resolve that name to the matching Contact(s)? Do you have
AutoComplete addresses turned on? Tools | Options | Mail Options....it's in
there somewhere, I don't have 2003 in front of me to look at right now.

The autocomplete list is filled with addresses you send messages to. If
the addresses are not getting saved, see
http://www.slipstick.com/problems/nicknamecache.asp

Yes, you need contacts with the address book- the address book is just
a list of your contacts that have electronic addresses.
