Faxes from Outlook 2002 not using dialing rules
Hi-
I've set up my fax numbers for my contacts in the canonical format (+1 (123) 456-7890), but faxes originated in Outlook 2002 do not use the dialing rules I have set up. However, other programs such as Word, when the XP Home Fax printer is chosen, faxing to an Outlook contact, will correctly use the dialing rules. Any ideas? Thanks, Scott |

Odd. I can't reproduce that. Dialing rules work fine here when sending from
Outlook. Clarify the method you are using for sending from Outlook and what other transports are in your Outlook profile. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Scott" wrote in message om... Russ-
Thank you for your response. I have set up a contact in Outlook with his business fax number in the format of +1 (123) 456-7890. If I want to send a fax in Word, I can select the Windows XP fax device and chose the Outlook contact. The dialing rules are applied and everything looks right ((123) 456-7890) in the fax monitor and processes correctly. However, if I was in Outlook, and I chose the same business fax number of the same contact in the "To:" field, or if I chose to manually enter the number [FAX: +1 (123) 456-7890], the dialing rules aren't applied, and the fax doesn't work, and it appears as "+1 (123) 456-7890" in the fax monitor. I have reproduced this on two different machines (XP Home and XP Pro) and different versions of Outlook (XP and 2003). Is there a setting in Outlook as to whether to apply the dialing rules or not? I have looked and looked, but I cannot find it. I do have the Fax Mail Transport set up in Outlook and Fax "printer" set up in the OS. Other than not applying the dialing rules, everything else works fine. The only other email account type is an Internet mail account. Thank you for your help! There is no such setting in Outlook, nor none needed.
Sorry, I simply cannot reproduce your problem, nor have I seen anyone else with it. Dialing rules are applied without a problem when I fax from Outlook 2002 or 2003 as long as the Contact's Fax number is in international format. Try creating a new Contact Record from scratch and making sure the fax number is in a fax field and is resolved. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Scott" wrote in message om... One other thought: How are you entering the fax number? You might want to
clear the recipient from your autocompletion cache if you're typing the number. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Scott" wrote in message om... Russ- Thank you for your response.
