Default Outlook will not open

I recently purchased a new computer which had a trial version of Outlook. I
purchased MSOffice XP and installed (hindsight I should have deleted trial
first). Outlook will not connect to mail server, in account when test
settings says "can not open outgoing email address incorrect" however I can
run Outlook express and retrieve/send email. I uninstalled both trial and
purchased version and reinstalled but still get same error when testing
account. Another weird thing is I can open Outlook but not change view to
incoming, address book, calander, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I set up a new profile and now can open Outlook and receive emails but still
can't send any emails, error -Task 'pop.windstream.net - Sending and
Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC78) : 'Unable to send the message. Please
verify the e-mail address in your account properties. The server responded:
(53 Authentication is required to send mail as "xxxxxx.windstream.net" I
checked authenication in settings but then when I tested account it would not
receive email.

It appears that for some reason, the credentials you are using in the SMTP
authentication aren't being recognized. What authentication settings do you
have?

I verified the settings were the same as in Outlook Express (I can send and
receive with Express), the error now is "Send test e-mail message: Unable to
send test message. Please verify the E-Mail Address field." however the email
address is correct. I tried to delete the account and add a new one but still
get the same error message.
PS : I really appreciate the help.

Try importing the Outlook Express account that works.

Oh, also make sure your firewall software is allowing Outlook to access the
SMTP port.

OK..Getting closer, I imported Express account. Now I can send myself an
email and get it 50% of the time. I sent one and received it, sent another
didn't, sent another and did. I emailed a friend and she was 50/50 also on
receiving. Each time Outlook tries to "Send/Receive" I get the verify
password pop-up even though I have "Remember password" checked. Any thoughts?
